Safeguarding
At Whetstone Field Primary School the safety and well-being of our pupils and staff is paramount. We have an urgent and relentless approach when dealing with safeguarding. We understand that safeguarding, and promoting the welfare of children, is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.
We follow the child protection procedures as defined by Walsall Safeguarding Children Board (WSCB www.wlscb.org.uk) and multi-agency threshold guidance. We work with partners to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people. All staff in our school are trained in Level 1 Safeguarding. Our Senior Leadership Team are trained at Level 2. This team monitor and review the safety and well-being of all pupils, meet regularly to evaluate provision and lead internal training. They work closely with all staff and often with individual and/or small groups of children.
Our Safeguarding team consists of Mr Cox – Head teacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead and Mrs Kelly – Deputy Head and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Domestic abuse / Operation Encompass
We work in partnership with Walsall Council and West Midlands Police to ensure support for children living with domestic abuse. Our Designated Safeguarding Leads receive an alert when police have attended an incident in the home. This allows our Safeguarding Leads to offer the family immediate support, safeguarding children from the short, medium and long term effects of domestic abuse.
Early Help
At times, additional support is required by families to manage life’s difficulties and our school seeks to play a key role in supporting them. We can offer advice on a range of family issues or support with referrals to outside agencies for specialist support.
Walsall’s Early Help Services
Should families require more intensive support this can be provided by the Early Help Hub. Please see the link below for more details:
