Science
At Whetstone we understand that a high quality Science education provides the foundations for understanding the world. Our scheme aims to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena and an understanding of how the scientific community contributes to our past, present and future. We want our pupils to develop a thorough knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics alongside a wide range of skills in working scientifically and beyond. We want our pupils to be able to make connections between their Science learning and their lives outside the classroom and to develop critical thinking, questioning the world around them.
We introduce vocabulary to the children in an ambitious and progressive manner and challenge misconceptions. Our goal is for all our children to be “Inquisitive Investigators” At all stages in their journey we encourage children to be independent learners, thinking for themselves about how to conduct experiments, which measurements they need to take and how to record their results.
In the Early years we foster the children’s natural curiosity and provide them with resources, first hand experiences and activities for hands on learning through both child-initiated and adult led activities.
