Admissions

If you would like your child to join us here at Whetstone, please follow the link below to the Walsall School Admission website:

https://go.walsall.gov.uk/school_admissions

You can also call us on 01922 743498 to discuss our admissions arrangements.

For Nursery places, please contact the school directly during the Autumn term before you want your child to start.  For example, for a start date of September 2025, please contact us between September and December of 2024 to complete your application details.  Closing date for Nursery Applications is 15th January 2025 – these applications are to be sent directly to school.  On the rare occasion that a child has started Nursery before the Autumn term if we have had spare capacity, the child will retain the place for the following September without a new application.

For Reception places, please follow the link above to complete an online application.  The deadline for these applications is usually the 15th January of the year in which you wish your child to start, but please check online for the exact date.

For places in other year groups, please contact Lynne at Midyear.Admissions@walsall.gov.uk as these applications are handled by the Local Authority.

Admission Criteria

For Nursery & Reception Places

Admission Criteria in case of over-subscription

  1. Children in Public Care (looked after children)
  2. Children who have an older sibling already in attendance at the school when the application is made and who will still be attending the school at the proposed admission date;
  3. Children for whom a place at the school is essential on medical or social grounds, as supported in writing by a medical practitioner or a social worker. (Applications will be subject to verification by the Managing Director, Walsall Children’s Services);
  4. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the centre point of the home address to the centre point of the school address using the Local Authority’s computerised measuring system, with those living closer to the school receiving the higher priority.

If there is over-subscription in criteria 2 and 3, priority will be given to those living closest to the school as measured in a straight line.

Note on Criterion 3

The medical or social evidence must relate to the child and must state why the preferred school is the only school that can meet the child’s needs.
